So, we’ve covered How Crystals Work and now that we have that understanding, let’s talk about how to understand crystals themselves.

When you actually begin to dip your toes into the world of crystals, you might soon become overwhelmed, which is totally fair and normal. There are a lot of details to think of or remember, so I’ve broken it down into a more digestible way…

I think it’s important to start off by saying in order to understand crystals, you have to respect them first. They (like many others) have been the subject of ridicule, criticism and exile. They’ve been exploited and capitalised. Shaped in a way where lab made crystals are easy to get hold of, but the naturally made crystals are harder to source because they are naturally made, therefore they hold more energetic power than the lab made crystals do. Then of course you have the conditioning that has happen. That despite our ancient history, people have been made to believe that crystals are no more than pretty rocks.

To begin understanding crystals, you have to understand their history, because their history is beautifully intertwined with ours…

Ancient History:

The first documented use of crystals dates back 6000 years ago! (6000 years!!) The Sumerians were incredibly inventive and creative. They invented writing (Cuneiform), mathematics, the wheel and were a key building block in agriculture.
It is said that the Sumerians used crystals in decorative art pieces, rituals and ceremonies.

Other ancient civilizations such as the Greeks, Egyptians, Norse, Celts and Indians all have documented the use of their crystals. Ancient China first used crystals around 5000 years ago in traditional Chinese medicine. In China, the Jade crystal was and still is a valued crystal for its powers.

Middle Ages:

The use of crystals had expanded into different areas by this point. During these times crystals were now also being used as talismans, protective symbols and amulets. These amulets and talismans would’ve been used for anything from love, attraction and prosperity, to protection, rejection and safety.

It’s important to note that during the Middle Ages, crystals were still used in spiritual practices as well as religious.

Modern Age:

We now have crystals being used for technology (hence crystal technology) as well as continuing the spiritual and healing practices from our ancestors. Like I said earlier, the only difference now is that we have the power to create more lab made crystals than naturally sourced.

Crystals have been our happy helpers for thousands of years. The mother Earth loves to provide what is beneficial for us, and she produces crystals in abundance.

“When you hold a crystal, you hold a piece of Earth’s magic”. 

I think the next important step to understanding crystals is to actually understand yourself, more specifically your emotions and how you emit them.

Like we’ve discussed before (How Crystals Work) crystals work through energy, meaning the energy you emit, the crystal is going to pick up on and either amplify, bounce back or cleanse you of it.

Before working with crystals, it’s important to be aware of yourself beforehand, because you don’t want to accidentally amplify a negative emotion instead of cleansing it, right?

I think the best way to begin working with crystals is to find an emotion that you currently feel the most and ask yourself,

Do you want this emotion amplified?

Or

Do you want this emotion to be cleansed?

By starting here, you get a clear understanding of what you want out of your time with crystals. Which is also super beneficial for the crystals themselves as they not only work with the energy you emit, but they also work well with intention. Meaning if you provide a crystal with a clear job to do, they will do it (providing you also look after them back).

Once you begin to understand crystals, you begin to open yourself up to working with them in a clear intentional way.

Working with crystals means breaking through the conditioning that we have been made to believe about them. It also means that by doing that, we are allowing ourselves to grow and expand (how amazing).

The road to understanding crystals is parallel to the road of understanding ourselves. Our human nature and our human history has had crystals working by our side. For our health, wealth, the good and the bad. Crystals are an incredibly useful tool that I believe we need to re-connect back with.
